9 STEPS TO GREAT BRANDING
— First off lets zoom out and look at things at a larger perspective. Why does your brand exist, what does your brand help people with, what do you help solve?
— Who does your brand typically help? And are you aiming for more of the same type of customers or are you targeting new markets or segments?
— Why do people choose your brand over anothers? What is special about your offering, or in other words what is your unique selling proposition? Refine.
— Have a look at similar businesses, large and small, anything that works well, anything to avoid? Learn.
— What are you trying to solve with this brand work, what are we trying to achieve with this specific activity? This is good for everybody involved to be aware of, to be able to hit that target.
— Great its time to get to work, prototype the new brand expression, create a minimum viable product version of the brand expression.
— Create guides, examples and templates that would benefit your brand, here is a list of inspiration. Logo, that one stamp that hints at the personality of the brand, or what you do. Typography choice, are we modern or classic or something else. Use of colour, setting the mood. Illustration, either to guide and help communicate, or to simply heighten the brand experience. Animation for a dynamic and modern brand. Photography and video style, a picture says more than a thousand words :) Layout, defines how all elements come together. Tone of voice is how do we talk and write. Spacial design, update your office or store to the new brand experience/expression.
— Great, now you have the expression in place and it’s time to create the actual assets for your brand, such as; social media posts, designing and coding a website, designing packaging and produce it, printed material, planning, shooting and editing new photo and video material, creating a pitch deck / a sales presentation.
